A home not a hospital: bringing a sector hidden behind stigma to the fore, through videography
Coolmine Therapeutic Community is a national drug and alcohol treatment centre that provides quality community, day and residential services through a self-help approach to facilitate recovery. Coolmine believes everyone should have the opportunity to overcome addiction and lead a fulfilled & productive life including the most vulnerable members of Irish society.
Due to stigma around substance use it can be difficult to generate support for an addiction treatment charity. While introducing potential new donors to Coolmine the first port of call is a tour of our services. There is nothing more impactful than walking through our services, and feeling the power of opportunity in these facilities. People are often surprised that these services are not clinical - they are homes. They are a safe space for healing and change.
I wanted to create a way to produce this same impact before people ever have the chance to visit our services. I created the below video series to celebrate International Recovery Month.
